Post Office Travel Insurance
Post Office Travel Insurance is well worth looking into. I recently paid for a holiday to Cyprus and was quoted £30 for insurance for a week. There used to be no choice, you had to pay the insurance premium requested by the holiday booking company, but now you can choose.
I looked a few different policies before I settled on the Post Office one. 9 days insurance for Cyprus costs £17 for individual cover. (£30.60 for a couple and £42.50 for a family.)
So, what level of cover does this give you?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Cancellation: up to £5,000
Curtailment: 5,000
Emergency medical repatriation: 10,000,000
Hospital inconvenience benefit: £15 a day up to £800
Personal possessions: up to £1,500
Loss of passport: up to £250
Personal money including foreign currency 72 hours before departure: £500/£200 cash
Accident: £50,000
Missed departure: £1,000 (up to)
Departure delay: £300 maximum
Personal liability: £5,000,000
Hijack: up to £1000
Mugging: £50
Catastrophe cover: £500
Homecare: £250
Legal advice/expenses : £25,000
Airline failure: up to £1,500
There is an excess of £50 when claiming for cancellation, medical treatment, curtailment, possessions, money and departure delay. Excess is £100 for families and couple insurance.
I think this offers extremely good value compared with the other policies that I looked at.
You can insure for single trips like I did, or buy an annual policy if you travel a lot. Use this for business or leisure. Insurance is also available for travel inside UK (different rates) and worldwide (different rates). There is a ski pack available too which also covers you for:
Dry slope ski
Curling
Skidooing
Reindeer sleighing
Huskie walking
An anual multi trip policy includes 21 days free ski/winter sports cover.
How do you get this insurance?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Buy it at a post office, over the phone or by post.
At the post office you just fill in a form and you will get your policy immediately (most main post offices), other smaller branches will post it to you within 7 days. (Keep your receipt until you get it through.)
Over the phone you can pay by credit or debit card. (Phone: 0800 169 9999 call is free.)
The full range of travel sevices including foreign exchange is explained here.
If you want to buy by post fill in the application form and send it with a cheque or postal order payable to 'Aon Ltd' to the address shown on the form.
Remember that you aren't covered by insurance until your aplication is processed and the policy is issued.
Verdict:
+++++++++
Great value for money with good levels of cover. The wide range of different policies should suit most needs.
The post office promises to pay claims within 5 days and offers a money back guarantee so that if you find something that offers a better deal you can get a refund.
I would certainly recommend Post Office Travel Insurance to anybody going abroad on business, or for a holiday .
